Unlocking the Power of Information Sharing in Process Industry:
Why we Should Embrace Data-Driven Collaboration

A data space (often also referred to as a data room) is a digital, secure environment where companies and organizations can exchange and share data without losing control over their own data. Typically, these data spaces are equipped with strict access rights and rules to ensure data privacy and security. The goal is to create a trusted, interoperable framework for data exchange that allows for the safe and collaborative use of data.

Key features of a data space:

  • Data sovereignty: Data owners retain control over their data and decide who can access it, when, and how.
  • Interoperability: Data spaces enable the exchange of data between different systems and platforms in a standardized manner.
  • Trustworthiness: Security mechanisms such as encryption and identity management ensure a high level of data privacy and security.
  • Use cases: Data spaces can be used for various applications, e.g., sharing sensor data, production information, or for collaborative business models like predictive steam production.

Process X – A data space for the process industry

Process X is the data space for the process industry. The mechanisms known from other data spaces are built and tested based on practical, relevant use cases to ensure that the solutions meet the needs of chemical production.

Use Case „Predictive Steam Production“:

  • Save CO2 by reducing the amount of steam that needs to be produced in the first place
  • Save costs on the energy bill through data-driven prediction of steam production

Use Case „Waste Heat Marketplace“:

  • Save CO2 by reusing waste heat for other companies instead of cooling it down
  • Gain additional income selling waste heat
  • Comply with upcoming EU regulations

Use Case „Automated as Built“:

  • Reduce manual data input by automatically updating equipment data into connected systems (CAE, ERP, etc.) and provide additional services such as automated SIL-Loop calculation, process carbon footprint calculation, etc.
  • Fewer unplanned shutdowns due to deep insights into asset health and automatically shared equipment failure data with the manufacturer
